Russell P. Schropp practices in the areas of land use, zoning, and environmental law and is the chair of the division. He primarily represents property owners and others before local, regional, state and federal agencies.
Prior to attending law school, he worked as a city planner in Hillsborough County, Florida, and received his Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. While in law school, Russ was a member of the Law Review, and is the author of an article entitled The Reasonableness of Aesthetic Zoning in Florida: A Look Beyond the Police Power, 10 F.S.U.L.Rev. 441.
For five consecutive years (2007 – 2011), Russ has been named to Florida Super Lawyers ® magazine, which recognizes the state’s top five percent of attorneys who are selected through an extensive peer review, statewide survey and independent evaluation. Russ was also recognized by Best Lawyers in America® for 2011, highlighting his practice in land use and zoning law. He is also AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Russ joined Henderson Franklin in 1984 and currently serves on the firm’s Executive Committee.
Russ is a member of the Real Estate Investment Society of Lee County (REIS). He previously served on the Board of Directors for Hope Hospice of Lee County, as well as on the City of Fort Myers Board of Zoning Adjustments and the Nuisance Abatement Board. From 1995-1998, Russ was a member, and former chair, of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit.
Russ is also active in youth sports. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Southwest Florida Baseball, Inc. and previously coached both the Fort Myers Little League and Lee County YMCA. He was also an advisor for the YMCA’s Youth-in-Government Chapter at Fort Myers High School.
