The event will kick-off with a warm welcome from Ave Maria School of Law CEO and Dean John Czarnetzky. He will share information on the exciting things happening with the School’s Business Institute.
Florida Bar Intellectual Property expert Luca Hickman will present the first session, “What do I need to do to protect my idea and business?“
Business and Tax attorney Matthew Brust will help attendees understand “What is the best corporate structure for my business?“
To conclude the event, Luca Hickman will moderate an esteemed panel of experts to assist attendees on “How do I get funding?” Panelists include:

Luca Hickman focuses his practice in all aspects of copyright, patent, trademark and trade secret matters. He assists clients in the creation and management of intellectual property portfolios, franchising, brand licensing and anti-infringement matters, including extensive anti-counterfeiting work, and creating and overseeing global trademark portfolios.
Matthew Brust focuses his practice in business organization operations and planning, mergers and acquisitions, and federal and state taxation. He enjoys working with business owners, entrepreneurs, and start-ups explaining the most tax-efficient methods to implement their business needs and goals, and then guiding them to the best possible legal outcome for their unique situation.
Guest Speakers
Chief Executive Officer and Dean John Czarnetzky. In addition to serving as Dean, Mr. Czarnetzky serves as a legal adviser to the Holy See’s Mission to the United Nations, representing the Holy See in negotiations, including establishing the International Criminal Court and several international treaties. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S., 1982, Chemistry) and the University of Virginia (J.D., 1989). Before law school, Dean Czarnetzky was an officer in the United States Army, where he served as an intelligence analyst, specializing in foreign chemical, biological and nuclear capabilities.
Timothy J. Cartwright‘s firm Fifth Avenue Family Office (which he co-founded in 2006) serves entrepreneurial, high net worth families with multi-generational wealth, providing exit strategies for closely held businesses, oversight of real estate and alternative assets, portfolio constructions, family governance and next gen education. He recently completed an 11-year term as a member of the Florida Gulf Coast University’s Foundation Board, finishing as Chair of the Board. For the fourth consecutive year, he was named by Florida Trend magazine to their list of “Florida’s 500 Most Influential Business Leaders” due to his venture capital and private equity activity with the Tamiami Angel Funds and Adrenaline Venture Fund.
Blake M. Cathey was born and raised in Naples, Florida. He has been disruptive making a name for himself with a global thumb print as a serial entrepreneur and marketing expert with experience in acquisitions and closing deals both domestically and internationally. Blake started his journey in real estate, working primarily with investors and sharing the same core values that Accanito does…That is that businesses don’t grow, but relationships do. Blake’s role in the business is focused primarily on sourcing new relationships, directing operations & vetting new projects. Outside of the funding world, Blake enjoys traveling with his wife, golfing, and spending time with many local organizations and charities. He believes firmly in working hard every day to better himself, make those around him proud, and share his faith with others.
Dr. Dan H. Vo joined the Daveler and Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship at Florida Gulf Coast University in the Fall of 2021 as an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship. Prior to joining FGCU, he was at California Lutheran University and Hartwick College where he was tasked with developing and teaching venture funding courses at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. Dan also has an active research agenda. He was a Research Fellow at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia, Canada and was a member of the 2013 NBER Entrepreneurship Research Boot Camp. His research emphasizes on the interplay between financial resources and strategic objectives pursued by both the investors and the entrepreneurs. Several of his works were published in Financial Times top 50 journals including Journal of Financial Economics and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.
