Best Law Firms uses a tiered ranking system rather than assigning individual numerical rankings. Tier 1 recognizes firms achieving the highest overall scores within a particular practice area and geographic region. Tiers 2 and 3 recognize additional firms based on their comparative scores within the same market. All three tiers represent recognition through the publication’s evaluation process.

The 2027 edition incorporated approximately 30 million evaluations of more than 134,000 lawyers from over 25,000 law firms nationwide. A total of 15,671 firms received metropolitan rankings, while 2,220 earned national rankings.
