Florida Construction Law Expert Aaron Haak to Discuss Contracts, Claims and Construction Disputes at ASA Forum

Florida Bar Board Certified Construction Law Expert Aaron HaakHenderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt, P.A., is pleased to announce that Florida Bar Board Certified Construction Law expert Aaron Haak will discuss construction contracts, claims and disputes as a featured panelist at the American Subcontractors Association of Southwest Florida’s legal seminar, “From the Field to the Bench: A Multi-Perspective Panel Discussion,” on Friday, August 14, from noon to 2 p.m. at The Capital Grille in Fort Myers.

Designed for Southwest Florida contractors, subcontractors and other construction professionals, the program will examine legal issues that can arise during a project and the steps contractors can take to reduce risk before those issues lead to litigation. Haak will join attorney George Gift and Twentieth Judicial Circuit County Court Judge Javier Pacheco. He shares,

“Some of the most important decisions affecting a construction dispute are made while the project is still underway. How the contract addresses risk, how additional work is handled and how the parties document what happens in the field can become critical later. This discussion gives construction professionals the benefit of hearing those issues examined from both the attorney and judicial perspectives.”

The panel will explore construction contracts, claims and disputes, including construction defects, extra work and time claims, subcontract provisions addressing risk and responsibility and best practices for documenting and preserving claims and project communications. Judge Pacheco will also offer insight into what can make a construction case persuasive in court.

With ongoing development across Southwest Florida, contractors face legal and business decisions that can have major consequences for their companies and projects. Haak regularly advises members of the region’s construction industry on protecting their interests, managing risk and resolving disputes when they arise.

A Florida construction law attorney with more than 25 years of experience, Haak is Board Certified in Construction Law by The Florida Bar. This distinction recognizes attorneys who have demonstrated substantial involvement and competency in the field and satisfied the Bar’s rigorous certification requirements. His practice includes contract drafting and negotiation, construction liens and collections, construction defect claims and disputes involving delays, scope changes and performance issues. He represents owners, developers, contractors and other industry professionals in litigation and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
