Luis Rivera practices in the area of Commercial Litigation. Luis focuses his practice on bankruptcy with concentration in creditors’ rights and insolvency counseling in bankruptcy court. His bankruptcy experience includes representation of secured creditors in both consumer (Chapter 7 & 13) and Chapter 11 reorganization cases, as well as involuntary and discharge proceedings. Luis also currently serves on the panel of trustees in bankruptcy for the Middle District of Florida (Fort Myers Division). As a member of the panel, he is one of three court-appointed officials in Southwest Florida who administer bankruptcy cases filed under Chapter 7.

In addition to bankruptcy, Luis also handles: other creditors’ rights cases; real property litigation, including mortgage foreclosure, landlord/tenant disputes, and title insurance litigation; contract disputes; and other general civil matters. He regularly serves as general counsel to a number of corporate clients. Luis also frequently speaks to business and professional groups on bankruptcy and related business litigation matters.

Luis is admitted to practice in all state courts in Florida; the United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit; the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida; the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida; the United States Bankruptcy Court, Middle District of Florida; and the United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Florida.

Luis holds an AV® Preeminent™ rating by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized as a Florida Super Lawyers ® “Rising Star” in the field of business litigation, which recognizes the top 2.5% of young attorneys in the State.

Luis attended law school at Washington and Lee University and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Washington and Lee Journal of Civil Rights and Social Justice.

Luis currently resides in North Fort Myers with his wife and two sons.

Professional and Civil Affiliations

Luis is active in the Southwest Florida community and is a member of the Chamber of Southwest Florida’s 2010 Leadership Lee Class. He currently serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Hispanic Instituteat Hodges University. He also previously served on the Lee County Charter Review Committee and as Chairman of the Lee County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board. Luis is also active in the local legal community, serving as a member of the Lee County Bar Association’s Law Week committee and Chairman of the Law Week Blood Drive.
