David M. Platt has more than 30 years of experience as an estate planning and business attorney. He concentrates his practice in estate planning, estate and trust administration, commercial transactions and business entity formations.

David frequently speaks and writes on estate planning and business matters for financial planners, accountants and attorneys, as well as the general public. David is an adjunct professor of law at the Michigan State University College of Law, and is the author of several publications.

David was selected by The Best of the U.S. LLC as being amongst the best attorneys in the United States, highlighting his focus on trusts and estates. The Best of the U.S. LLC reviews the credentials of practitioners in fourteen professions, determining the "Best of Class" in each. The selection process identifies those professionals who have continued their education, provide leadership in their industry, and have been recognized by their peers, their industry and their community as the best. Additionally, he has been recognized by Florida Monthly as a Top Florida Attorney, as well as being named to The Best Lawyers In America® every year since 2006.

In 2008, David was awarded a Certificate of Completion in Probate and Estate Planning from the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) at the University of Michigan. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

Prior to moving to Sanibel, David served as the Estate Planning Department chairman of a Michigan law firm.

Professional and Civil Affiliations

David serves as a board member on "CROW" (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife) in Sanibel and is a board member on the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation. He is also a member of the Lee County and Collier County Bar Associations.

He and his wife Kathleen have two daughters, Katherine and Joan.
